Mergermarket, an online financial news service, seeks a sharp, curious and target-oriented Editorial Assistant to support our team of specialized business journalists. Based out of Ft. Lauderdale, this is a rare opportunity to enter the Wall Street world of mergers and acquisitions from South Florida.
Approximately 80% of the entry-level position involves scheduling interviews for reporters with multi-million and multi-billion dollar companies. The ideal candidate will have superb phone manner that includes a sophisticated demeanor, an educated vocabulary and the ease of delivering a simple pitch. Are you good at getting your way when it's time to call the cable company? Do you lose your cool or do you make it work for you?
The candidate will also need to be target-oriented. The position will require a quota of booked-interviews be met weekly.
The remaining 20% of the position will be aimed at researching companies in relevant sectors to schedule interviews with. The research will consist of sifting through public filings, news reports and press releases to find trends, ideas and companies that could produce strong content for our readers. An on-site editor will be available for guidance as well as access to our nationally based editors. Knowledge and interest in business news and mergers and acquisitions is a plus.
This is an opportunity for a person with strong “people-skills” to dive into finance and get their feet wet with gatekeepers and executives. Aspiring news hounds or potential sales people looking to sharpen their teeth welcome.
Dependent on performance, the entry-level position could lead to a larger role in the organization. This is a temporary and part-time role that could potentially lead into a permanent role. You will be required to be in the office three days a week from 9AM-6PM.
