Mergermarket and William Fry are pleased to present the Ireland Full-year M&A Review. This report provides a comprehensive overview of developments in the Irish M&A market during 2017, and offers insight into likely trends in the year ahead.

Key findings include:

  • Deal volume reached its highest total on Mergermarket record – a total of 143 deals worth €14.9bn were announced over the year, representing a 5.9% increase in volume compared to 2016. As in previous years, this activity was driven by dealmaking in the mid-market, which accounted for 93.5% of total volume in 2017 (up from 82.4% in 2016).
  • PE dealmaking experienced impressive growth last year, with 37 deals announced worth €12.2bn, more than double the value of all announced PE deals in 2016.
  • A number of key sectors saw strong activity by volume in 2017. In particular, the consumer sector was a major M&A story of 2017, with the sharpest rise in deal volume year-on-year – increasing from 8% to 13%.
