Welcome to the September edition of mergermarket's Monthly M&A Insider. We were hoping to report on a resurgent M&A market this month, however this has not materialised. It seems there remains a clear paralysis amongst M&A players starved of the pipeline of leveraged cash to fund deals. It is easy to see why - the banks won't lend to each other, and the hedge funds are either licking substantial wounds or busy switching their focus to distressed companies and bearish stock trading practices. Meanwhile PE firms are scratching their heads deciding whether they should pursue strategies where they must either stump up more cash, or start trading debt themselves in order to keep things moving. All of which makes for terrific fun and games for those analysing what is going on, but inevitably creates something of a hiatus in deal making activity....
We hope you find this report useful and we would particularly welcome any feedback or questions you might have.
