European announced M&A deal volumes undoubtedly declined in the second half of 2007, however, both the cumulative value and volume of M&A deals in 2007 increased by 3% on 2006. Indeed, the full calendar year 2007 saw some €1,025bn in deal value spread over 6,129 transactions. Moreover, the impact of the summer’s credit crunch appears to have had a more marked effect on the value of M&A deals being conducted rather than the actual volume. While the value of deals reduced somewhat as the year progressed, with just 38% of the year’s deal value falling in H2, the second half still saw 47% of the deal volume...
