M&A in Renewable Energy31 May 2008

While Landsbanki Íslands hf. has recently established itself as a pan-European bank on global markets, both its roots and headquarters are located in Iceland, where the bank builds on over 120 years of experience.

That experience includes major expertise in power production, as evidenced by the fact that 72% of Iceland’s primary energy consumption comes from renewable sources, as compared to the global average of 13%. Iceland is fortunate in having plentiful energy resources. Electricity is produced solely through the use of hydro and geothermal energy and these sources are expected to continue to provide for the nation’s energy demands well into the foreseeable future. Landsbanki has participated extensively in financing projects in the renewable energy sector: since their establishment, it has served as the house bank of electricity enterprises in the domestic market. In so doing, the bank has accumulated comprehensive knowledge of the sector and clients’ needs. Through its expansion to continental Europe, Landsbanki has come into contact with and further widened its client and knowledge base to include other energy subsectors, thus adding to its expertise on renewable technologies.
