Welcome to the 2009 edition of the German Cross-border report. As we enter 2009 it is clear the economy is in a vastly different place to that of mid-2007 where cash and debt were plentiful. 2008 was a period of great uncertainty and change as the M&A world fell grip to the consequences of the global financial crisis. This survey aims to provide some insight into what the future may hold for German Cross-border transactions and how best to utilise opportunities in today’s market.
100 senior executives were interviewed for this report to give their views on upcoming activity. Interestingly, this report highlights the change in sentiment to mid-way through 2008 towards the end, in August 53% believed activity would increase either slightly or significantly. In contrast in November 2008 this number dropped to 11%.
